Healing Begins When You Rewrite The Story with Tania Khazaal

A conversation with Tania Khazaal

51:19

About This Episode

Welcome back to another episode of The Amberly Lago Show! Today I'm sitting down with Tania Khazaal, mentor, speaker, bestselling author, and a powerful voice in conversations around family estrangement, emotional resilience, healing relationships, and what she calls "cut-off culture."

In a world where "protect your peace" can sometimes mean walking away from anyone who makes us uncomfortable, Tania challenges us to look deeper. Are we creating healthy boundaries, or are we avoiding the difficult conversations that could lead to healing, understanding, and reconciliation?

Tania shares her own experience as an estranged daughter and how childhood hurt shaped the story she told herself about her mother, her worth, and whether she was truly loved. As she began doing her own emotional work, she realized that healing wasn't only about understanding what happened to her. It was also about understanding the story of the person who hurt her. That shift helped her move from resentment toward compassion and eventually rewrite the story she had built her identity around. 312 Audio-Episode

We dive into Tania's three stages of healing: uncovering the wound, understanding and reframing the story, and ultimately rewriting your own story. She explains why awareness matters, but why staying attached to the pain can keep us stuck. As Tania puts it, sometimes familiar pain feels safer than unfamiliar peace. 312 Audio-Episode

This conversation also gets real about divorce, co-parenting, parent-child relationships, family conflict, and generational wounds. Tania explains what can happen when a child is caught between two parents and why the healthiest response may be to remain grounded, consistent, and safe rather than fighting to prove the other parent wrong. 312 Audio-Episode

And we talk about something that feels especially relevant today: our growing inability to have hard conversations. Tania shares a different definition of protecting your peace, not avoiding everything that triggers or challenges you, but becoming internally grounded enough to navigate discomfort without losing yourself.

When reconciliation is possible and safe, she encourages approaching the conversation not to win or prove your point, but to listen, ask questions, acknowledge the other person's experience, and create enough safety for both sides to be heard. 312 Audio-Episode

If you've experienced family estrangement, resentment, childhood wounds, a difficult parent-child relationship, or a relationship that feels beyond repair, this episode will challenge you to look at healing differently. Your pain is real, but it doesn't have to become your permanent identity.
