In this episode, I’m opening up about my personal journey from hitting rock bottom to finding joy amidst life’s challenges. I’m sharing my experiences and shedding light on the importance of finding joy even in the darkest times. - The Sticky Note Reminder: Have you ever had a small reminder that kept you focused on a big goal? For me, it was a sticky note reminding me to write my book, “Joy Through the Journey.” After a conversation with John Gordon, I pitched the idea to Wiley Publishers, and they loved it!
- Finding Joy Amidst Pain: I want to share my struggle with CRPS and alcoholism. There was a time when I lost all hope and joy, but I eventually found my way to sobriety in 2016. It wasn’t easy, but focusing on what I can do rather than what I can’t has made all the difference.
- Joy Spotting: Have you ever tried joy spotting? It’s all about noticing and appreciating the little things in life that bring joy. Every morning, I take walks, watch the sunrise, and connect with God. It’s my way of practicing joy spotting.
- Gratitude Practice: Gratitude has been a game-changer for me. Every day, I list ten things I’m grateful for. I use the My Spiritual Toolkit app to keep track of my gratitude and connect with my “God Squad.” Try it out—it really helps!
- Mindfulness and Meditation: Mindfulness and meditation are essential parts of my daily routine. I love using the Calm app to manage stress and pain. Breathing exercises and being present in the moment have been incredibly beneficial for me.
- Movement and Exercise: Moving your body is so important. Whether it’s through a workout, a walk, or dancing, find ways to stay active. Trust me, the joy and endorphins from physical activity are worth it, no matter your physical limitations.
